In August 2021, she joined the CMG Washington, D.C. Bureau.  She previously worked as an investigative reporter for FOX13 Memphis (WHBQ). During her time in Memphis, Kirstin walked miles with protesters in the aftermath of George Floyd’s death and covered the subsequent police reform changes. She also received a 2021 Regional Murrow Award for her two-part series “Black in America: Generational Pain and Healing,” which focused on the racial inequity experiences of four generations of Memphis men.

Furthermore, Garriss previously worked as a Government Reporter for Spectrum News in Charlotte, NC, a statewide hyperlocal cable station. She covered the 2016 Republican National Convention, the Democratic National Convention, and Charlotte’s bid for the 2020 Republican National Convention while in Charlotte.

In addition, Garriss worked at WDVM (formerly WHAG-TV) in Hagerstown, MD, where she covered the Maryland General Assembly, and at NPR and NBC News in Washington, D.C. Kirstin was also named a 2021 Gracie Award winner, a national honor given by the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation to women in the media industry.
